Cape Kamenjak

Cape Kamenjak, located in the southern part of Istria, only about 10km away from Pula. It is a part of the Donji Kamenjak in the Medulin archipelago and is located on the Premantura Peninsula. On the small area around it there is still rich flora and fauna, and on the coastal part there are over 30 picturesque coves. Cape Kamenjak is a wonderful thing to see on your sailing vacation, made better with additional 11 small islands around that are wonderful to explore!

Several protected nature areas, including bays, caves and forests, make home for many endangered plant species. Two endemic species of orchids, Serapias istriaca Perko (Istrian coward) and Serapias x Pulae Perko grow here. This area is the only known site in Croatia where the extremely rare and endangered yellow centaury (Cicendia filiformis) grows.

The cape is the perfect resting and feeding place for many migratory birds. Ornitho-fauna surveys, from the 19th century, recorded 146 bird speices living here. Hold your breath and look out for the black-throated loon (Gavia arctica), common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), the red-throated loon (Gavia stellata, the common tern (Sterna hirundo), the European shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii), or the Sandwich tern (Sterna sandvicensis).

Don’t be surprise if you come across autochthonous Istrian cattle, boškarin, wondering around, or if you meet one of the 50 butterfly species who call Kamenjak their home.

Dinosaur trail at cape Grakalovac, will reward you with unusual content – dinosaurs footprints and fossils. 600 meters long educational and recreational trail „Following the Dinosaur Path on Kamenjak“ is located on the right side of the cape.

This area of the Adriatic is a home of the bottlenose dolphin, and of large significance for their development and reproduction in Croatia. They will surely company you while sailing in the area.

Pinižule beach, pebble beach surrounded by pine forest, or Dražice beach one of Kamenjak's finest will give your body and soul much wanted relaxation. You can have a drink at Safari bar, very authentic and rather unique beach bar made entirely of natural materials where your inner child can come out and play. In this playful mode you can jump form 15 meter high cliffs into a perfect clear Adriatic.

Istria kept this piece of nature untouched, so there is no camping allowed, but you can pedal your bike or walk through this beautiful scenery and find peace and natural sounds only.
