Šibenik is a historical city located in central Dalmatia near the point where the river Krka flows into the Adriatic Sea. Unlike many other cities on the Croatian coast, Šibenik was founded by Croats.
There are many sights to explore in Šibenik because of its rich and long history. Šibenik’s central church, the Šibenik cathedral of St. James, is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. There are four fortresses in Šibenik: St. Nicholas Fortress, St. Michaels Fortress, St. Johns Fortress, and Barone Fortress. St. Michaels Fortress hosts many cultural events, especially in the summer. Šibenik is one of the locations in Croatia where the TV show Game of Thrones was filmed!
The traditional gastronomy in Šibenik is a blend of Turkish and Venetian influences and has many wineries for you to explore. North of the city you can find the Krka National Park, known for its many waterfalls, flora, fauna and archeological remains.
West of Šibenik, the Kornati archipelago is located, consisting of 140 islands in an area od 320km2, making it the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.
